How to Brown Butter

  • Place butter in saucepan over medium heat
  • Heat butter until it begins to simmer, stirring ocassionally
  • Butter will begin to brown after a few minutes, continue to stir and brown until butter has a nutty scent
  • Butter will have dark brown flecks in it – be sure to scrape all these from the pan to use in the recipe! This is cooked milk fat and is where all the flavor is.
